The Oxford Vaccine Group is a vaccine design, development, clinical trials and laboratory evaluation research group in the University, and one of the largest academic research groups in the world focussed on developing and evaluating vaccines for children.

Lead PI - Professor Andrew Pollard

Main tasks under the Project:

  • Collection of DNA / RNA samples from ~1000 cases of childhood pneumonia in Nepali children together with clinical data (GAVI funded PneumoNIA study). ~400 will have already have functional genomic data. ~600 will have functional genomics undertaken and ~1000 participants will be genotyped as part of current study
  • 3000 – 5000 participants in ongoing carriage studies (GAVI funded PneumoNIA study)
  • 2,500 will be genotyped as part of the current study to identify determinants of carriage of pneumococcus
